2008 Economics Challenge Winners
Congratulations to David Bear and his AP Economics Students from Lawton
Eisenhower for winning this years Oklahomas Economic Challenge, Adam
Smith Division. Doug Jechs
team from Kingfisher High School finished first in the David Ricardo
Division.
Both teams competed in the Western Division of NCEE's Regional
competition on April 29, which included schools from 10 states in the
Adam Smith Division and from 11 states in the David Ricardo Division.
Texas won the Adam Smith and Hawaii the
David Ricardo Division of that competition.
Thanks again to the teams for participating, and to our sponsors for
helping out this year.

Congratulations to the Winners of the
Congratulations to three 11th grade students from Christian Heritage Academy, Del City, for making a clean sweep of the UCO Business Challenge sponsored by the UCO Center for Economic Education, the Oklahoma Council on Economic Education and The Oklahoman. Jamie Knowles and Jessica McClain tied for first place and received a $500 cash prize for their entries. In addition, Hannah Owen received a $150 third place cash prize for her entry. The winning essays will be posted on the College of Business Administration page of the UCO Web site.

The following responses relate primarily to the question: what did you like best about this workshop? Several of the answers were given multiple times, but were only listing them here one time due to space limitations. Environmental Economics, Ardmore (12
participants) The ability to use the materials across the curriculum. Variety! I loved the different speakers with different approaches. The presenter's eagerness to expand on topics. How the whole workshop built on specific principles and key words. Topics covered current issues - subjects of concern. Actually doing some of the lessons and the sharing of ideas. Materials/Tour of the Samuel Noble Foundation Hands-on activities. The examples used pertained back to the classroom. Global warming; hydrocarbons; Economics and Polymers .WOW! The materials presented and provided are great and will work nicely in my classroom. One of the best workshops I have attended. Keep up the good work and more workshops. City (30 participants) Madeline was cool and calm. She kept things rolling along. The workbook, information. Resource book The length. Useable without too much work. Materials I can easily use readily in the classroom. Going over the lessons. The hands-on activities we did with the lessons. So many ideas! Informative. There were math concepts - shapes, percentages, etc. and reading also. Location, materials, provided coffee! Id like to see more workshops in Tulsa! Using Newspapers to Teach Pass
(55 participants) Having actual usable lesson plans; networking with other teachers. New ideas, lesson plans Presenters were enthusiastic, it was fun Everything!! The varied ways & uses of newspapers. Learning hands-on materials for teaching with newspapers. The usable ideas. Things I can use in class, i.e. personal finance exercise Interaction to discuss economics across the curriculum. Steady - on-going - no waiting - preparation (loved your facility) Lessons that are easily implemented in my class. Ideas to use in my current events classes. The multiple ideas for using newspapers - creating lesson plans. I liked the variety and the unity of the workshop. The variety of topics which can be associated with economics - science, language arts, etc. Teacher presentations and how they used them in the classroom. Examples of how to use the programs given by classroom teachers who use it themselves. Door prizes, presenters showing great interest in the subject. How I can use all the information and relate it to my math classes. I can use most everything in my classroom. [Home] |
